Rohatsu (Buddha’s Awakening) Sitting at the Caledonian Road Dojo
The 8th of December marks the time of year when, in the Zen tradition, we remember and honour Buddha’s awakening. In some monasteries in the world, this is marked with a late night, or even an ALL night sitting.
Here in London we will have an additional Saturday program as follows: The following schedule will be silent except the chanting of the Hannya Shingyo at the end.
Saturday 7th December:
08:30 – Dojo opens
09:00 – 09:30 zazen
09:30 – 09:40 kinhin
09:40 – 10:10 zazen
10:10 – 10:20 kinhin
10:20 – 10:50 zazen
10:50 – 11:30 – Break – Silent
11:30 – 12:00 zazen
12:00 – 12:10 kinhin
12:10 – 12:40 zazen
12:40 – 12:50 kinhin
12:50 – 13:20 zazen
13:20 – Hannya Shingyo, closing and samu
13:40ish – some of us will go to the the cafe to eat and socialise afterwards – come along if you like (optional)
Please note : this event is not appropriate for first-timers as there will be no introduction, and little talk. There is however our regularly scheduled Saturday afternoon introduction and zazen with introduction starting at 16:20 and zazen beginning at 17:00 –
Cost:
We run entirely by donations – we are recommending a donation of £15 for Saturday – or as you can afford.
