IZAUK Sesshin led by Senior Zen Teacher, Mokuho Guy Mercier at Crosby Hall (near Liverpool)
This is a week-long IZAUK Sesshin being led by Senior Zen Teacher Mokuho Guy Mercier at Crosby Hall (near Liverpool)
This will be a 6 day sesshin including the opportunity to receive the precepts. This means to take refuge in the three treasures: Buddha, Dharma and Sangha. This is sometimes called “Bodhisattva Ordination” – People who would like to make this commitment should contact their Dojo head as soon as possible. The IZAUK Annual General Meeting will take place during this week.
About the Teacher:
Guy Mercier was born in Paris in 1946 and first practiced zazen with Master Deshimaru in 1973. He became his disciple in 1976 after receiving monk ordination. He then actively participated in the life of the sangha by organizing summer camps, taking responsibility for the kitchen (tenzo) in 1977 and 1978 at Val d’Isère, then helping set up La Gendronnière in 1979-80. After Master Deshimaru’s death he remained active in the Paris sangha. From 1986 to 1991, he was again tenzo at La Gendronnière and became head of the temple from 1991 to 1997.
In 2004 he started the Tenbôrin Association which brings together members of his sangha, and in September 2008 received Dharma transmission from Sojun Matsuno Roshi. He is the current Abbott of La Gendronnière, our head temple in the Loire Valley of France. He holds sesshins in France, Spain, England and Switzerland.
